Theme Parks For a complete list of all the major parks and attractions Click here
Theme parks make a particularly enjoyable day out for the younger members of the family and southern Spain has two such centres, located in Benalmádena and Seville.
Tivoli World Of all of the parks on the Coast this is the one most like the large ride-oriented parks in other parts of Europe and the United States. Tivoli World is located in Benalmádena Costa which is about 10 minutes from Málaga airport and 30 minutes away from Marbella. There is a small entrance fee, but once inside you can buy tokens for the various rides and attractions. For about 10€ you can purchase a Super Tivolino token that will give you unlimited access to all the rides in the park. Tivoli World won't appeal to adrenalin junkies and doesn't feature any innovative or unique rides, but what it lacks in speed it makes up for in entertainment. Can-Can and flamenco shows as well as music concerts and theatre are all on offer and draw crowds from all over the Costa. Tivoli World also contains many restaurants and many parents take the opportunity to leave their children in the park while they have a meal in peace. Some of the rides are owned and run by independent operators, so you will need a certain amount of cash as well as some Tivoli World tickets. The Bungee Rocket is one of the park's more unique features and catapults participants 120 metres into the air in under two seconds. It's great fun, if a little bit pricey. Another one of the park's more interesting features is the Tunnel of Terror, where actors jump out and attempt to frighten patrons as they walk through its maze of passage ways. Tivoli World makes for a great evening out - it doesn't open until around 4p.m. in the afternoon and shuts after 1a.m. in the morning. Children between the ages of five and twelve will love it, although older children will undoubtedly find it an anti-climax compared to parks such as Alton Towers. The shows, however, are well worth the entry fee.
Isla Magica The other major theme park in this part of Andalucía is Isla Magica in Seville. Much larger and considerably more modern than Tivoli World, it combines superfast rides with magical characters similar to those that you would find in Disney World. If you're staying in Seville then Isla Magica is on your doorstep, but anyone planning to travel there from the Coast would be advised to calculate at least half a day's travel. In Isla Magica you will find cunningly designed rollercoasters, log flumes and other high speed attractions. The park is divided into different zones such as the Mayan Kingdom and Pirate Land, each of which is populated by characters in appropriate costume. As with Disney World, the particular magic for children is the interaction with these fantasy characters. Group discounts are available and anyone who arrives at the park after 2.30p.m. will also be charged a lower entrance fee. The marbellalife.com team says: "It's a long way to Seville but, if you stay overnight, Isla Magica is definitely worth a visit!"
