Events for December MUSIC 17th December 2004. International Carol Service at 17.00 fills the church of La Encarnacion near Orange Square in the old town of Marbella. Admission is free to the Spanish, German and English service organised by the Anglican Church of the Costa del Sol West on behalf of the international community, with the co-operation of La Encarnacion's parish priest Don Francisco Javier Echemendi. The story of Christmas is told once again in the nine lessons from the Bible, read by prominent members of the community, intermingled with carols led by the Collegium Musicum choir. 20th December 2004. The annual Christmas concert given by Collegium Musicum in The Encarnacion Church near Orange Square at 21.00. The recital comes under the patronage of the Fundacion Banus in collaboration with the Marbella Culture Department and with thanks for the collaboration of Parish Priest Don Francisco Echemendi. The Choir and Orchestra conducted by their director Annemarie Philipps is joined by soloists Hasmik Nahapetyan (soprano), Maria Rosa Perez Diaz (mezzo soprano), Luis Pacetti (tenor), Javier Zorrilla (base) and Svetlana Tovstukha (cello). The programme comprises "Misa Coronacion" by Mozart and as is now traditional Collegium Musicum Christmas concerts end with a selection of international carols. The audience is then invited to join the choir and orchestra to sing Adeste fideles and Noche de Paz. More information is available on 952 811 795.
21st December 2004. The New Philharmonic Orchestra of the Odessa Opera gives a concert of Waltzes, Polkas and Marches at 21.30. Until 23rd December 2004 A photographic exhibition entitled "Postales de Marbella" created by students at the municipal photographic workshop conducted by Lola Rudolphi is on show in the Fundacion Arte y Cultura in Plaza de Ramon Martinez (in the same building as the municipal theatre in Las Albarizas). Throughout December 2004 San Pedro Alcantara. An exhibition of works by glass designer Amanda Brisbane is on show at the Norton Gallery in the Guadalmina Alta Commercial Centre in Bloque 2, Local 25.
9th December 2004 to 6th January 2005 All the Nativity Scenes entered in this year's "Belen" competition organised by the municipal Fiesta Department can be visited Monday to Saturday from 18.00 to 20.00 and Sundays and holidays from 12 to 14.00. There is a varied selection of entries: Brotherhoods, Churches, Institutions, Peņas and private individuals and prizes for all the different categories ranging from 1.500 euros to 90 euros. The judges decision will be made known on 19th December when from 17.30 the prizes will be presented in the Alameda Gardens. More information from the municipal Fiestas Department on 952 903 305.
10th December 2004 San Pedro Alcantara. Conservatives Abroad, (Marbella and West branch) hold their Christmas Dinner at the Restaurant Jardin del Vino in the Avenida Marques del Duero, (San Pedro Alcantara's main street. The evening begins at 20.00 and includes the traditional Christmas dinner plus a turkey raffle. The cost of is 30 euros and those wishing to attend are requested to reserve early as there is always a high demand. 11th and 12th December 2003 CUDECA Christmas Cup Golf Tournament at the Santa Maria Golf and Country Club is a Stableford competition and will end on Sunday evening 12th December with a prize giving dinner with entertainment at the new CRUMPS Restaurant in Pueblo Lopez in Fuengirola. The Golf competition is part of the continuous fund raising to enable the CUDECA Cancer Care Hospice in Benalmadena to give its "Special Kind of Caring" to more than 140 terminal patients every day.
